drag2share: HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio -- we go ears-on (video)

Guess who's back? HTC let us play with the new and improved Sensation XE in London last night and we even managed to find a secluded spot to bop our heads to the integrated Beats Audio and packaged YourBeats headphones. The XE is very similar to the original 4.3-inch flagship Sensation in terms of hardware, except there's a 300MHz clock-speed bump to 1.5GHz, a slightly larger 1750mAh battery and also a packaged 16GB (instead of 8GB) microSD card. But aside from that, we expect it'll be the audio credentials and related marketing hype that will attract most attention when the device reaches shelves later this month. Current Sensation owners probably won't even consider the upgrade unless they're chronic Dr. Dre fans, but what about those with more sticky icky icky devices? Should they be enticed by all the fuss? Click past the break if you think rap's changed and you want know how we feel about it.

drag2share: HTC strikes Dropbox deal, will offer 5GB free on Sense 3.5 phones

Source: http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/22/htc-strikes-dropbox-deal-will-offer-5gb-free-on-sense-3-5-phone/

HTC has now launched itself into the clouds, confirming that its latest Android phones will get an extra 3GB of storage with Dropbox. According to Pocket-Lint, the extra space will extend to all HTC devices running Sense 3.5, which at the moment means it's limited to the forthcoming HTC Rhyme. We probably won't see the Dropbox deal extend to HTC's Windows Phones though -- Microsoft reckons it has the whole file-syncing thing covered.

drag2share: OpenMobile demos ACL for MeeGo, promises 100 percent compatibility with Android apps (video)

Source: http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/22/openmobile-demos-acl-for-meego-promises-100-compatibility-with/

OpenMobile is a new company on the application compatibility scene whose primary product, the Application Compatibility Layer, promises to bring Android's large volume of apps to smaller platforms. In the following video, ACL is shown running on MeeGo, where the creators promise full compatibility with every Android app -- without the need for developer modification -- by leveraging Google's runtime environment and Dalvik VM. While support for Intel and Nokia's misbegotten lovechild is first out the door (along with Linux itself), the company plans to introduce similar versions for Bada, QNX, Symbian, WebOS and Windows. Like its competitor, Alien Dalvik, OpenMobile is positioning its Application Compatibility Layer to OEM manufacturers rather than consumers. Unfortunately, this eliminates any hope you might've had for installing Hanging with Friends on that N9 you've pre-ordered -- unless OpenMobile's able to convince the folks in Espoo with a mighty good sales pitch, anyway.

[Thanks, Mikko]

drag2share: DNA Proves Your Fancy Suit Isn't a Fake [Science]

Source: http://gizmodo.com/5842520/dna-proves-your-fancy-suit-isnt-a-fake

DNA Proves Your Fancy Suit Isn't a Fake
Wool from Yorkshire in Northern England is so fabulous that bad guys want to counterfeit it.

So wool merchants are shooting it up with proprietary DNA to prove it's the real thing. Applied DNA Sciences provides the anti-counterfeiting service, which involves a proprietary method of injecting the fabric with a unique botanical DNA during manufacturing.

The Huddersfield, UK Textile Centre of Excellence is coordinating the effort to get wool merchants on board with the anti-counterfeiting effort. It's incumbent upon individual wool-purveyors to insert the DNA into their wool. The Center of Excellence has installed a forensic lab to analyze company's woolens and give its stamp of approval. So far participating companies include Dormeuil, Taylor and Lodge, and Holland and Sherry, among others, which supply fabric to some of the fanciest designers around the world including Duncan Quinn and Tom Ford, who made Daniel Craig's suits for Quantum of Solace .

Applied DNA Sciences has sold similar programs to Supima cotton, the wine industry, electronics manufacturers and law enforcement.

When when the rampantly counterfeited handbag industry get on board?

drag2share: Tweeting Photos via SMS Could Revolutionize News [Twitter]

Source: http://gizmodo.com/5842575/tweeting-photos-via-sms-could-revolutionize-news

Tweeting Photos via SMS Could Revolutionize NewsIf you own a smartphone, the possibility of tweeting a photo via SMS probably means nothing to you. But, if you're still rocking a regular mobile phone, or in a country that has no mobile Internet access, sending photos via SMS is exciting news.

Twitter announced the new "share a photo via text" feature today. While most Twitter feeds consist of links to cat videos and snarky remarks about HP, Twitter and Facebook are quickly becoming important tools for local journalists and activists to share information about conflicts and disasters. An SMS photo sharing feature could help expand this coverage.

The one draw back is that it's only available on the following carriers:

US: AT&T, Verizon and Cellular South
UK: Vodafone, O2, and Orange
Italy: Vodafone
Canada: Rogers Communications
Bahrain: VIVA
Brazil: TIM

Twitter says they will continue to work with carriers to get more onboard. [Twitter]
