3M's MPro110 pico projector hits the streets for $359 a pop

With the holidays at hand, all these improbably-small projectors we've been seeing around for the past year or so are starting to land in force, and 3M's MPro110 is certainly a contender. The little unit shoots a VGA image onto screens as large as 50-inches (though we wouldn't recommend it), with a long lasting LED backlight backing it up. We got an up-close look at the thing last night, and have a few quick notes: the image is about as dim as you'd expect, and looks exponentially better the smaller the area you're trying to project on -- at about 30-inches in a decently lit room the image was insufferably dim, but at around 17 or 18-inches we were getting some pretty good definition brightness. The projector autofocuses plenty fast, which is clutch for a "handheld" projector, but it does get fairly warm despite its LED usage. Overall, we can't fault the projector too much, with a $359 pricetag and a "paperback book" form factor, but the application is certainly limited at the moment, and we're guessing these will be getting a lot better in the future. The MPro110 is now shipping.

HTC MAX 4G officially announced, world's first GSM / WiMAX phone

Hey Sprint, you listening? Granted, GSM doesn't do Sprint a whole lot of good in the States, but swapping a CDMA radio into HTC's first WiMAX effort here would make for a downright mighty response to the Touch HD. The previously-seen T8920 has turned out to be the MAX 4G, an 800 x 480 monster with 8GB of Flash on board, two cameras, an FM radio, GPS, WiFi, triband EDGE, and -- most importantly -- WiMAX support, making it the first GSM / WiMAX handset anywhere in the world. It'll be launching on Scartel's Yota network in Russia, and if you have friends cool enough to have a MAX 4G of their own, calls between the two of y'all will automatically be routed over the WiMAX airwaves using VoIP. A launch date hasn't been announced, but unless you're in Russia, there's probably not much point in even bothering to lust after this one. If you insist, though, you can check out a couple additional shots of the phone over at Engadget Mobile.

Nokia "Wahoo" 3G half-QWERTY flip swings into view

We didn't see this one on our exhaustive leaked Nokia roadmap, but our homeboy Boy Genius has uncovered pics and specs of a new Nokia flip destined for AT&T. Codenamed "Wahoo," the quad-band clamshell features an interesting half-QWERTY keypad, an internal 2.2-inch QVGA display and a 1.36-inch external unit, push-to-talk, microSD expansion, and A2DP support -- which you'll need because Nokia seems to think a 2.5mm headphone jack is still somehow acceptable. No word on a release date, but if you're waiting on pins and needles for a phone with a display that small we really can't help you anyway.

Samsung shows off P3 portable media player

Source: http://www.engadget.com/2008/11/12/samsung-shows-off-p3-portable-media-player/

Samsung has been pretty tight-lipped about the inevitable successor to its popular P2 (or YP-P2) PMP, but the company has taken the wraps off of it in a big way today, with it not only announcing its new P3 handheld, but letting a few sites actually get their hands on it. As rumored way back in May, the device's touchscreen gets a haptic upgrade, but the size and resolution stay the same at 3-inches and 480 x 272. Otherwise, you can expect capacities ranging from 4GB to 32GB, built-in Bluetooth with A2DP support, an FM tuner, a mono speaker, support for all the usual audio and video formats and, of particular note, an all new interface complete with customizable widgets. No word on a price or launch date just yet, but Samsung will apparently have more to say about that when it gets even more official about the device at CES in January. Until then, you can hit up the links below for some more pics, including an ample supply of comparison shots.

Nokia E63 gets unboxed, examined

We've seen spy shots and official shots of Nokia's new E63 handset, but nothing quite makes our day like unboxing shots of a fresh new device (even if it's a pre-production unit), and the folks at the TamsS60 blog have thankfully come through on that front, and offered a few impressions of the phone for good measure. Of particular note, they say that the E63's keyboard layout is "a lot less annoying" than the one on the E71, and the "weird type of rubber" used apparently feels better to the touch as well. Anyone looking to ditch their E71 should also be aware that those changes affect the size of the device, so you're out of luck if you were hoping to hang onto your E71's case. Hit up the link below for some more pics, and keep an eye on the site for a full review that's promised soon.
