SeatGuru Now Offers Flight Searches, Tells You If You'll Love a Flight or Not

Source: http://lifehacker.com/5978271/seatguru-now-offers-flight-searches-tells-you-if-youll-love-a-flight-or-not

SeatGuru Now Offers Flight Searches, Tells You If You'll Love a Flight or NotSeatGuru has long been a great resource for pinpointing the best seats on an airplane. The site has recently introduced a flight search tool, so you can plan your trip and take a look a the plane seat maps all in one place.

The new flight search, powered by TripAdvisor (which owns SeatGuru), offers the basics we've come to expect in any travel planning tool: sorting by price, finding packages, searching only nonstop, and looking for flexible dates.

A few interesting features make SeatGuru's search stand out. First, you can include baggage fees in the totals, so you can really compare how much those flights will cost. If you absolutely need power or Wi-Fi or other amenities during the flight, you can also select those options.

The search seems to be designed to give you the best view of both price and experience: You can require a minimum airline rating (from TripAdvisor's giant user community) and sort results by a unique "Guru Factor" that tells you if you'll love a flight, like it, or simply live with it. In this way, it's similar to previously mentioned Routehappy, except SeatGuru offers more detail and prices.

In short, it's now a lot easier to get not just the best flight but the best seat on that flight.

I Want to Get Lost in This Room of 8,064 Floating Lights

Source: http://gizmodo.com/5978555/i-want-to-get-lost-in-this-room-of-8064-floating-lights

Getting lost in a forest of trees sounds like a lot of fun but then you realize things like bugs and wildlife and poison ivy exist. Not so fun anymore! What's guaranteed to be fun is to trap yourself in a cube of floating lights. 8,064 LEDs to be exact.

Called Submergence and created by a group of artists known as Squidsoup, the installation would surely bend your senses backwards by squishing your eyeballs with lights. The lights actually respond to movement through motino sensors so you're definitely guaranteed a mind trip. Submergence is on display at Gallery ROM for Art and Architecture in Oslo, Norway.

Orange Amps updates its OPC once more: Intel i7, 16GB RAM and a graphics boost

Orange Amps trotted out a few updates to its PC / amplifier hybrid over a year ago, but the music outfit has announced some more quite noteworthy tweaks at NAMM 2013. The orange clad units will now sport third-gen Intel i7 processors, a maximum capacity of 16GB of RAM (doubled from the previous 8GB limit) and users will have their choice of either NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 650 Ti or AMD's HD 7750 to power graphics matters. Of course, the OPC will still feature the same array of inputs for tracking in addition to its built-in speaker for keeping an ear on how things are progressing and an attractive software suite. A fully loaded model will hit the ol' wallet for £1,197 ($1,896), but individual component upgrades are available should you be looking to save a little coin.

New 3rd Generation Orange OPC Upgraded And on Demonstration at Winter NAMM 2013

Orange Amplification has upgraded the multi-award winning state-of-the-art Orange Personal Computer to the 3rd Gen Intel i7 processor and doubled the maximum 8GB of RAM to a massive 16GB.

The 3rd Gen Intel i7 processor has up to twice the HD Media and 3-D graphics performance and delivers stunning visual! experie nces from mainstream gaming to HD video editing. Creating and editing videos and photos, surfing the Web, watching HD movies or playing mainstream games are now quicker, crisper and more life-like. The additional 16 GB RAM will further help the speed of the OPC and enable users to multi-task with no noticeable slow down in performance.

Users can now also purchase the OPC with the latest generation Nvidia 650 ti or AMD HD 7750 Graphics Card for even more advanced graphical performance.

Already described as an 'affordable guitarists dream' by Guitar World Magazine and a computer '[packed] full of high-performance components' by CNET, the OPC now has a huge speed boost with the upgraded 3rd gen Ivy Bridge Intel CPUs with the added benefits of built-in studio quality speakers, ultra-low latency (1ms), ¼ jack inputs/outputs and an incredible £500 of recording software already installed and configured. The latest upgrade means the OPC now has more power and speed for a wider range of creative needs from recording, video editing, gaming, music playback and 3D modeling to provide unbeatable value.

The latest upgrade on the OPC follows a succession on world class reviews in 2012 which saw Expert Reviews.com give it a 5 star review, Guitar World awarding the OPC their coveted Gold Award, CNET.com presenting it their editors choice and Stuff magazine describing the OPC as an ace-sounding all-in-one studio crammed into a '70s rock icon'!

Canonical outs project to help Ubuntu smartphones launch with over 10 core apps

Canonical's Ubuntu handsets are expected to be upon us very, very soon, and given that some say a phone is only as good as its apps, the firm wants to make sure the experience is indeed a great one right out of the box. To help accomplish that, Canonical has announced the CoreApps project, setting its sights on about a dozen default applications which should give Ubuntu devices ample functionality from day one; this, of course, includes essential ones such as a calendar, calculator, clock / alarm, weather and email client. That's not it, however, since the project also lists plans for social networking apps like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, as well as an account and file manager, document viewer, RSS reader and even a terminal -- the latter, naturally, should make Android rooters feel right at home. Canonical is seeking help from the community to make the CoreApps project a reality, so those devs interested in helping may want to click the source link below to learn all the nitty-gritty.

Your iPhone Has a 3D Display, All You Need Are a Couple of Prisms

Source: http://gizmodo.com/5978383/your-iphone-has-a-3d-display-all-you-need-are-a-couple-of-prisms

Your iPhone Has a 3D Display, All You Need Are a Couple of Prisms A three dimensional projection display is always one of those features teased in the least believable "next iPhone" leaks, but it turns out your phone already has one, sort of. With a couple of prisms and an optical illusion called "pepper's ghost" just about any screen can summon up 3D graphics.

This little trick was devised by Japanese designer Yuri Endo for his thesis project. Called the "Luminogeist," the set of four prisms can effectively take images off the screen of an iPhone (or any device, really), bounce them around, and merge them to generate what appears to be a tiny, floating animation.

There's not much of a practical purpose for it other than being awesome, but honestly, what better reason is there than awesome? It's just too bad these sets aren't for sale. At least not yet. Hint hint nudge nudge. [Designboom]

Google Slides gets offline editing, begins rolling out today

Source: http://www.engadget.com/2013/01/23/google-slides-gets-offline-editing-begins-rolling-out-today/

Google Slides

Google made Docs available for offline editing this past summer and now it's extending the capability to Slides. In a rollout slated to begin today, users of the web-based app (formerly known as presentations for Docs) will be able to edit, comment and control r/w privileges on Drive-hosted slides without being tethered to the internet -- those tweaks will simply auto-upload the next time a connection is established. You'll need to be currently enrolled in offline editing for Docs to take advantage of this new feature, as it's not enabled by default. But if not, don't stress, Google's included detailed instructions in the source below. So, what's next in line for offline editing? Oh, that'd be Google Sheets.

LG intros 15.6-inch U560, helps stretch our definition of Ultrabook (video)

Source: http://www.engadget.com/2013/01/23/lg-intros-15-inch-u560/

Image

There have already been a few 15-inch Ultrabooks that have pushed the very limits of the thin-and-light category. Still, LG wants its turn at bending the rules. Its new U560 packs a 15.6-inch display and an optical drive that, together, contribute to the PC's 4.3-pound weight and 0.82-inch thickness -- really, it's a traditional laptop in a slimmer than usual package. Not that we'll complain too much when it involves an IPS-based LCD, a 1.8GHz Core i5, dedicated graphics (a support page suggests NVIDIA) and both a spinning hard disk as well as solid-state storage. The U560's launch is limited to South Korea so far, although we wouldn't be surprised to see Europe and other territories get their turn.

Google adds ARM support to Chrome's Native Client

Source: http://www.engadget.com/2013/01/22/google-chrome-native-client-arm-support/

Google adds ARM support to Chrome's Native Client

Google's Native Client endowed x86 machines with the ability to run apps compiled from C and C++ right inside Chrome in 2011, and now ARM devices are finally getting their time to shine. Mountain View's latest Native Client SDK adds support for ARM hardware, and tweaking existing Native Client apps to run on the architecture sounds pretty painless. According to Page and Co., developers just have to add a new file extension to their app, tweak a manifest file and get ahold of the fresh SDK. ARM support is reason enough for developers to celebrate, but Google says it's working on a next-gen Portable Native Client that'll let apps work regardless of architecture and without having to recompile, to boot. If you're ready to start coding, hit the source link for more details.

The First Arab Supercar Costs $3.4 Million And Has Diamond-Encrusted LEDs

Source: http://www.businessinsider.com/lykan-hypersport-first-arab-supercar-costs-34-million-2013-1

lykanhypersport supercar arab w motors

Next week, W Motors, based in Beirut, will reveal the Arab world's first homegrown supercar: The outrageous LykanHypersport 2013.

The oddly-named vehicle will make its debut at the Qatar Motor Show, starting January 29.

On top of impressive power figures — 750 brake horsepower, good enough to go from 0 to 62 mph in a blazing 2.8 seconds and hit a top speed of 242 mph — it is loaded with luxuries.

The LykanHypersport's LED lights are diamond-encrusted. The leather interior features gold stitching. The display system used 3D holograms.

For those willing to spend the $3.4 million to purchase one, the Lykan also comes with a 24-hour concierge service, and a Special Edition Cyrus Klepcys Watch, worth more than $200,000.

The LykanHypersport will be fully revealed at the Qatar Motor Show. It will certainly be expensive and luxurious. But whether it can really compete with established supercar makers remains to be seen.

It will take something great to move wealthy Arab drivers with millions to spend on cars away from classic greats, like Ferrari, Lamborghini, Koenigsegg, and Bugatti.

But even for potential owners with the cash, the new supercar will be hard to get: Only seven will be produced. Deliveries are scheduled for September.

Yahoo Is In Talks To Buy A Site We Actually Use, Snip.It (YHOO)

Source: http://www.businessinsider.com/yahoo-acquires-snipit-2013-1

marissa mayer prettyNews just broke via AllThingsD that Yahoo is poised to acquire startup Snip.It.

Snip.It is a social site that resembles a mash up of Pinterest's collections and Instapaper's ability to save links for consumption later.

AllThingsD reports,

Snip.it was founded by Ramy Adeeb, who was formerly a principal at Khosla Ventures, and has funding from Khosla, True Ventures, Charles River Ventures and SV Angel.

Yahoo is paying “mid teens” of millions of dollars for the company, according to an AllThingsD source.

snip.it

Users organize links into collections and followers subscribe to collections based on their interests.

Snip.It has a pretty robust analytics feature baked in too so you can see exactly how many people are digesting the content that you curate.

I've been using Snip.It for some time now as a way to simply remember links that I want to read later.

Mayer's intent to acquire Snip.It falls in line with her plans! for the future of Yahoo.

We're not sure what will happen to Snip.It after acquisition but hopefully it won't fade out of existence.

Got a 3D Printer? Build Yourself a Loyal Robot Companion

Source: http://gizmodo.com/5977926/got-a-3d-printer-build-yourself-a-loyal-robot-companion

They're not in every home just yet, but if you're lucky enough to have a 3D printer at your disposal, a French sculptor by the name of Gael Langevin will let you create more than just plastic trinkets. He's spent the past year developing a 3D printable robot, and has made the open source plans available through Thingiverse for free.

At the moment only the plans for the robot's left and right arms are available, but Gael plans to post the schematics for the head and torso once he's refined and perfected their design. Of course, you'll still need to add electronic bits like various servos and a couple of Arduinos to control and coordinate all of InMoov's components, but when all is said and done (and printed) the final robot creation will be just as capable as pre-assembled kits that will cost you tens of thousands of dollars.
