Say you're just bouncing around on the internet. Suddenly one of your thousand open tabs starts making noise. Now you're annoyed, but you can't find the tab. MuteTab helps you find it before you go crazy and hurt yourself.

Jared Sohn designed this Chrome extension to give you better control of which webpage you actually want to hear. Like if you've left an ad-laden site on but want to watch something on Netflix. All you have to do is right click and MuteTab provides you with a menu for muting what might be causing your ears to bleed.

One problem, though, is turning off the sound for different plug-ins can get complicated, resulting in this workaround using some guesswork to get at a noisy tab. And turning off the sound for a Flash game you want to get back to could wind up restarting the game. Problematic.

Still, this is a step in the right direction. Sohn just needs plug-in makers to get behind the idea. [MuteTab via Slashdot]

Daring Fireball is saying that a new software update for Apple TV has hit and it's a good one: you can finally buy TV shows from your Apple TV and stream any TV shows you've previously purchased from iTunes.

This is great. The stuff you bought is no longer trapped in the purgatory of iTunes and can now conveniently be watched on the big screen. It's all working in "the cloud" and is pretty damn convenient for anyone who has bought a lot of TV shows from iTunes. No support for movies yet though. Additionally, the update has added support for Vimeo. [Daring Fireball]

BMW's been teasing us with its vision for electric motoroing for years, and today, folks, the trend continues. The German automaker has unveiled two concepts from its upcoming i sub-brand: the city-dwelling i3 and a rehashed version of its i8. This is the first time we've officially seen the smaller of the two, as the car formerly known as the Megacity had only been spied in an official render and during routine testing at the arctic circle. It'll haul four peeps with its 150km range (around 100 miles) and accelerate from 0-60mph in around 8 seconds. As for those with range anxiety, the German company will soothe such fears with an optional range-extending motor dubbed "REx." Either variant could land in your garage in 2013, where you'll be able top them up in 6 hours with a standard socket, or up to eighty percent in an hour if you're rocking a spiffy high capacity charger.

The i8, which you'll recall for its radical aerodynamic design and hybrid diesel-electric drivetrain, has received a bevy of aerodynamic tweaks and junked its oil burner, opting for a gasoline one instead. Engine swap aside, the sporty coupé apparently drinks only 2.7 liters per 100km -- 87 mpg (!) for yanks -- which is unreal in a car that'll accelerate to 62mph in 4.6 seconds. Sound too good to be true? We'll have to wait until 2014 to see if München can make good on those promises, but in the meantime feel free to peruse the galleries, videos, and PR after the break.

When Google Chromebooks started arriving without the Netflix streaming we'd been promised we were predictably bummed, but that may be rectified soon. While Chromebook owners attuned to beta channel updates first noticed an entry for a Netflix plugin last month, it still couldn't actually play movies and didn't appear on older, single-core Atom powered Cr-48 laptops. Fast forward to the present, where one of our friendly comment moderators, masterofrandom has spotted this updated v1.0.2 plugin lurking in the depths of his murdered out 12-incher. There's still no playback to be had, but we're figuring Netflix didn't update the version number past 1.0 because it's finally figured out the perfect queue management system. Chromebook owners or prospective owners (and by extension, Linux users) still awaiting Watch Instantly streaming -- your alert level is at Vermilion.

Google TV not worth 300 bones to ya? How's about a cool Benjamin? As promised, Logitech has slashed the price of its Revue set-top box from $299 to $99 on its own site and at retailers like Best Buy, giving prospective customers something awfully tempting to consider alongside the prospect of running Honeycomb on their TV right away. Oh, and the much-reported nugget from its earnings about "returns exceeding sales"? It should probably be noted that wasn't about returns from end users, which the company claims "have averaged at levels comparable to other Logitech products", but from the distributors and retailers it sells most of its hardware to. So, you in, or are you still holding out for the 90 percent off sale that may or may not ever materialize?
